commentWhat once was a top notch printer and leader in Technology, customer service, new product development, and innovative ideas and design,is no more. Oh, the frosting is still on the cake, just drive by the Corporate building and admire the curb appeal. But what lies beneath is no longer palatable or even edible. The employees know it,the ex-employees know it, and most important of all the customers know it. At least the ones who no longer call Serigraph a current supplier. And the list is a long one.The few prospects that do throw them an occasional cookie are picking up on this also.
The "economic downturn" aliby is no longer holding water, and upper management (or mis-management) and the executives have been using this as justification for the lack of sales and layoff of literally hundreds of employees..Actually the majority of printers and converters in the S.E. Wis area are doing quite well and have been doing so for the last few years.
This mass employee attrition ironically began right after the power shift from father to son at the C.O.O. level. The mantra of the new regime is simply this:
Dismiss as many highly technical and experienced non-degreed people as possible and replace them with their inexperienced degreed counter part (surely one sheepskin is worth more that 2 or 3 local hicks). Then hire out temps to do the grunt work. The latter part of the equation obviously makes sense and in most cases,I have no argument with doing so.You just have to be able to distinguish between grunt work and skilled work, something the new regime isn't capable of.With the removal of the central core of expertise, the very thing which originally put Serigraph on the map locally and globally,is absent. It has been removed and replaced with a shiny new roster of high priced chair warmers, most of whom could not solve or rectify a product issue if their very lives depended on it. The results have been disastrous yet every few weeks a new MBA climbs on board and dissolves into the myriad of cubicles along murderers row.The result: Employee morale hit rock bottom for lack of trust in the company,Customer satisfaction in regards to quality, service and trust has dwindled, and sales numbers show it.
Well Al, who'd of thought that the great company that took you over 30 yrs to build could be run into the ground in such a short time. What a shame.
Some kids aren't ready for the car keys at age 16,and others should never be allowed to drive.
The Serigraph we all once knew, the one that promoted "family comes first", is no more.
