As an Architect and Assistant Manager at GACCo Construction and Land Transport, I oversee the design and execution of architectural projects, ensuring alignment with the company’s strategic goals. Additionally, I assist in operational management, including resource allocation, budgeting, and client relations, to drive project success and contribute to GACCo’s growth and reputation in the industry.
Since joining Gacco Construction and Land Transport in July 2022 as an Architect & Assistant Manager, I have embraced significant responsibilities, even as a fresh graduate. This role was both challenging and rewarding, pushing me to adapt quickly to high-stakes projects. The steep learning curve became an invaluable experience, granting me hands-on exposure to complex architectural and construction projects. One of my most notable achievements was designing and overseeing the construction of a CT scan and MRI room for Washington Hospital, one of Ethiopia’s most prestigious medical facilities. This project required precision, as medical spaces demand specialized designs for safety, efficiency, and functionality. Collaborating with professionals across disciplines refined my problem-solving skills and deepened my appreciation for healthcare architecture. I also led the renovation of a school building into a modern office space, requiring creative adaptation and technical expertise. Working alongside an American architect and a German builder broadened my perspective on global design and construction standards. Additionally, I designed a 1000m² residence in Austria, expanding my architectural reach beyond Ethiopia and exposing me to different cultural, environmental, and regulatory considerations. This project strengthened my ability to adapt to international design expectations. These experiences have enhanced my skills in design, construction, and project management. I’ve learned to navigate challenges, coordinate with diverse teams, and make critical decisions under pressure. What initially felt overwhelming became the foundation for my professional growth, instilling resilience and a solution-driven mindset. Looking ahead, I am eager to apply my experience to more ambitious projects, driving innovation and impactful architectural solutions. My journey at Gacco Construction and Land Transport has been one of continuous learning, and I am excited for what lies ahead.--
