Research Analyst 08/2023 - 06/2024
University of Illinois Extension, Chicago, IL United States
Industry: Public Sector
UofI Extension HOST - Illinois Board of Higher Education & Illini Science Policy Scholar This position is responsible for producing reports, drafting reports, and accompanying presentation materials as needed; supporting the project team to use data and information to support continuous quality improvement; and developing a project plan for completing the reports, analyzing quantitative and qualitative information from participating institutions of higher education and others, and aggregating and reporting on key trends, work, and challenges.
At the Illinois Board of Higher Education, I spearheaded initiatives to enhance higher education accessibility and workforce development through strategic data analysis and comprehensive program evaluation. My work on a $200M federal grant project involved developing and implementing data-driven strategies to improve educational outcomes and equity. I analyzed extensive datasets, produced critical reports, and presented insights to key stakeholders, driving informed decision-making. Additionally, I facilitated collaborative events to share best practices, fostered transparency, and assessed the impact of scholarships and educational programs. My contributions have empowered policymakers with actionable insights, leading to targeted interventions that promote sustainability, growth, and equitable access within the higher education sector in Illinois. The Illini Science Policy Scholar, under the mentorship of Zachary Kennedy, analyzes U.S. Census Bureau data to create comprehensive reports for the Illinois State Census Data Center, focusing on business, healthcare, and agriculture. By examining workforce statistics from 2001 to 2023, the project reveals significant trends and disparities in manufacturing, agricultural, and healthcare sectors in Illinois and nationwide, such as changing demographics, increased educational qualifications, and persistent health insurance coverage disparities across racial, ethnic, and gender groups. Through data visualizations and in-depth analyses, these reports aim to enhance public understanding and assist policymakers in developing inclusive policies. Key insights include the rise in advanced degrees among agricultural workers and the underrepresentation of women and minorities in manufacturing roles. Highlighting these disparities underscores the need for equitable healthcare access and targeted policy interventions. Ultimately, this project empowers policymakers with the evidence required to design inclusive policies, fostering data-driven decision-making for a more equitable and prosperous Illinois.--
