Fuel & Landing Gear Tests and Integration Intern 07/2015 - 07/2016
Airbus UK, Bristol, England United Kingdom
Industry: Aerospace
he Fuel and Landing Gear Test teams support the development and certification test activities performed for the
fuel and landing gear systems in all the Airbus civil aircraft programs. My primary responsibilities included Avionics, Hardware and Testing
Summary of the Tasks Performed
The Single Aisle Rig was built in the late 80s and being run on PDP-11. The PDP-11 being obsolete; it was difficult to
find spare parts even in the second-hand market. Any Hardware failures could result in high rig down times which
can seriously affect performance. The scope of the project was to renovate the hardware and software aspects of
the rig to bring it up to the standard of the other modern rigs. I played a major role in building the rig physically,
which involved dismantling the old rig and reconstructing it in the new racks, replacing old wiring and connections. I
was also responsible for updating the Rig drawings. Next phase was the software upgrade, where I proposed and
developed a solution for the data bus reader which was appreciated across the department. Other Rig users
requested me to develop a similar solution for their Rigs too.
I picked up a lot of skills by taking this project. It helped me develop a sound understanding of the architecture of the
Rig, how the fuel system is simulated. I also acquired programming and coding skills. I improved my logical thinking,
problem solving whilst developing the logical functions for the GUIs.
I also had the opportunity write technical documents to prove/demonstrate the reliability of my GUIs which greatly
impacted my technical writing skills. Communication played a vital role in the completion of this project, I realized
the importance and impact of efficient communication. My first and last placement review clearly reflects the
progress of my skills development and communication was one of my weaknesses in the start.--
