Highlights:As an example of one of the solutions designed, I designed and developed a server less mobile backend using Amazon Lambda and API Gateway for a multi-tenant SaaS application. The client was looking for minimum possible operational overhead for managing application servers and database servers. In order to avoid the operational overhead of provisioning and managing servers we recommended using AWS Lambda, API Gateway, S3, VPC and RDS. Server less computing allowed us to break free from the operational costs of managing servers and build and deploy applications and services, which have built-in availability and scalability. The whole focus of the development team shifted to application code instead of having to think about provisioning, configuring and managing servers. Initially we selected an RDS instance with medium specifications. We proposed to monitor performance metrics on a regular basis to see the average, maximum and minimum values over a period of time and setup CloudWatch alarms. Based on the alarms, we could scale vertically or horizontally. As part of the solution a static website was hosted on Amazon S3. A VPC endpoint was created to allow the lambda function to access the S3 bucket.
